Celebrity Top 5

Clint Eastwood (Director)
Clint Eastwood (actor/director/producer) is one of the biggest icons of the hollywood industry. He started his acting career in the 1950's.He was a charismatic and a stylish actor and was famous mainly due to his roles in western genre movies like "The good, the bad and the ugly". He started directing in the 70's and went on to give the movie industry some of the best movies it had ever seen:). Here are some movies directed by Clint Eastwood that i enjoyed and hope that you will like them as well:).

Unforgiven (1992)
Unforgiven is undoubtedly one of the best movies ever made and the best western genre movie that i have seen:). Here, Retired Old West gunslinger William Munny (Clint Eastwood) reluctantly takes on one last job, with the help of his old partner and a young man. This movie mainly works because of brilliant direction by Clint Eastwood and is also aided by top performances by both Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman:). This movie may have elements that typical western genre films have like horse riding and gun fights, but it is also very different as it makes harshly correct statements about the nature of violence:). Overall, it is a fantastic movie which deserves your watch:).

Genre:-  Drama, Western.
Oscar Buzz:-
Won 4 Oscars (Best Actor in a Supporting Role,Best Director,Best Film Editing,Best Picture)
5 Other Nominations (Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration,Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Writing-Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen)
Bore Meter:- Won't get bored.Has decent pace:).
My Rating:-

Mystic River (2003)
Mystic River is another brilliant movie directed by Clint Eastwood and definitely one of the best movies i have seen:). Here, with a childhood tragedy that overshadowed their lives, three men are reunited by circumstance when one loses a daughter. This movie works because of some brilliant direction by Clint Eastwood:). Also, almost all the actors give great performances, especially Sean Penn, who is brilliant as Jimmy Markum:). This movie is engaging throughout and you do feel for the characters, thanks to top performances by all the actors:).Overall, this movie is definitely a must watch if you are looking for a mystery thriller with some depth in characterization and script:)

Genre:- Drama, Mystery, Thriller.
Oscar Buzz:-
Won 2 Oscars (Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role)
4 Other Nominations (Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Director, Best Picture, Best Writing-Adapted Screenplay)
Bore Meter:- Won't get bored.Has good pace:).
My Rating:-

Million Dollar Baby (2004)
Million Dollar Baby is a superb movie and definitely one of the best boxing movies ever made:). Here, a hardened trainer/manager works with a determined woman in her attempt to establish herself as a boxer.Million Dollar Baby works mainly because of its good script, great direction and superb performances by Hilary Swank,Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman:). The entire journey of Hilary Swank as a boxer is shown beautifully and movie also has great depth in its characters and script:). Overall, its a must watch movie for all who haven't seen it yet:).

Genre:-  Drama.
Oscar Buzz:-
Won 4 Oscars (Best Achievement in Directing, Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role)

Changeling (2008)
Changeling is another superb movie directed by Clint Eastwood:). Here, a grief-stricken mother takes on the LAPD to her own detriment when it stubbornly tries to pass off an obvious impostor as her missing child, while also refusing to give up hope that she will find him one day. What works for the movie is its story:),because it stresses for hope in the most toughest situations:). Clint Eastwood yet again directs this movie brilliantly:). This movie keeps you engaged throughout, as Christine Collins strives for justice and fights against the corrupt system:). Overall, its a great movie to watch,if you haven't seen it yet:).

Genre:- Drama, Mystery, Thriller.
Oscar Buzz:-
Nominated for 3 Oscars (Best Achievement in Art Direction, Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role).
Bore Meter:- Won't get bored.Has decent pace:).

Invictus (2009)
Invictus is a well made sport movie:). Here, Nelson Mandela, in his first term as the South African President, initiates a unique venture to unite the apartheid-torn land: enlist the national rugby team on a mission to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.This film tells the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela joined forces with the captain of South Africa's rugby team to help unite their country:).Both Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon are convincing in their roles:). The movie is pretty good but fails to reach the heights of some of Clint Eastwood's other directorials.Overall this a very good movie based on a true story:).

Genre:- Drama.
Oscar Buzz:-
Nominated for 2 Oscars (Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role)

  1. I would die worshipping him. One of the best director/actor/producer in Hollywood. He also proves that there's no age barrier in what you do. At 75 plus he's still making films with same dedication and passion he had when he was 35 or 40. I bow to you clint and thanks Akshy for this wonderful post :)

  3. Well said Hari. A great director and an even better post by Akshy. Mystic River was one of the best movies I've ever laid my eyes upon. Keeps you glued to your seat till the very end. Changeling really teaches us how there's still hope left even in the worst of situations. (Your post summed it up pretty well). Invictus was a lighthearted sports movie with great performances by Morgan and Matt. Morgan was the perfect choice to play Nelson Mandela. (Gotta give it to Clint, he knows what he wants and executes it perfectly). Unforgiven is a movie which, as its name suggests, cannot ever be forgotten. The performances by both Clint and Hackman are first-rate and the fact that Hackman won the Oscar for his role is well justified. And last but not the least, Million Dollar Baby was a treat to watch. Never knew much about Hillary Swank before this, but she caught my eye. It shows how a woman can do anything to make something of herself and a man who would do anything to make her accomplish this. Overall, the movies listed above are definitely worth watching.

Waiting to watch Clint's latest offering, J. Edgar. Clint Eastwood + Leo DiCaprio = Simply Awesome!

Once again, great post Akshy and keep em' coming. It's good to have common interests and be able to share them with someone. :-)

  8. I like this idea for a post. No doubt, Eastwood is a legend and all 5 movies you listed here are great as well. However, personally, I will rate Letters from Iwo Jima and even Flags of our Fathers very high up in his filmography. Strongly recommended if you haven't seen them.
