Movies by Year:- The 50's

The 50's was the decade of the classics. This decade, though lacking the technical effects of the 21st century, still gave some wonderful films. These films, almost 50 years later, are not only still viewed, but are also considered better than most of the movies of the current era. Here are some movies of the 50's that i really enjoyed:).

12 Angry Men (1957)
This 1950's classic is undoubtedly one of the best movies ever made:):):). I have never met a person who has seen this movie, and said he didn't like it.In this movie, the defense and the prosecution have rested and the jury is filing into the jury room to decide if a young Spanish-American is guilty or innocent of murdering his father. What begins as an open and shut case of murder soon becomes a mini-drama of each of the jurors' prejudices and preconceptions about the trial, the accused, and each other.Outstanding script, direction, and performances (especially by Henry Fonda) makes this movie one of the best movies ever made, and definitely a must watch:).

Genre:- Drama.
Oscar Buzz:-
Nominated for 3 Oscars(Best Picture,Best Director,Best Writing Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium)
Bore Meter:- Won't Get Bored.Has good pace:).
My Rating:-

 Dial M For Murder (1954)
This murder suspense thriller is yet another classic by Alfred Hitchcock:). Here,an ex-tennis pro carries out a plot to murder his wife. When things go wrong, he improvises a brilliant plan B.What makes this movie special is its tight script(very hard to find loopholes in this movie) which is extremely well executed and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It keeps you hooked in throughout its length,as events after events unfold and doesn't leave you disappointed in the end as well:). Well scripted murder thriller, surely a must watch:).

Genre:- Mystery, Thriller.
Bore Meter:- Won't get bored:). Has good pace:).
My Rating:-

 Les diaboliques (1955)
One of the finest french movies i have ever seen,Les diaboliques is an excellent murder suspense thriller:). Here, the wife of a cruel headmaster and his mistress conspire to kill him, but after the murder is committed, his body disappears, and strange events begin to plague the two women. It starts of a little slow, but once the plot thickens you find yourself stuck to your seat,as the 2 leading ladies face one situation after another:),chewing your nails and waiting for the climax:). If suspense is what you want, then this is the best movie out there, don't miss this:).

Genre:- Mystery, Thriller.
Bore Meter:- The first half hour is a little slow, but once the plot thickens, you won't be able to leave your seat:).
My Rating:-

Some Like It Hot (1959):-
When i decided to watch this movie,i had zero expectations.I thought, whats the point of watching a 50's comedy, all jokes would be outdated by now.But boy,i was extremely surprised when i watched this one:). This movie not only provides the laughs but also makes sure you watch the entire movie with a smile:). In this movie, when two musicians witness a mob hit, they flee the state in an all female band disguised as women, but further complications set in.This movie mainly works because of its likeable cast:). Both Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon have wonderful comic timing:),but its Marilyn Monroe who steals the show:). She is really loveable as Sugar Kane Kowalczyk:). For its excellent cast and direction this is a must watch:).

Genre:- Comedy.
Oscar Buzz:-
Won Oscar (Best Costume Design, Black-and-White)
5 Other Nominations (Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration Black-and-White,Best Cinematography Black-and-White,Best Director,Best Writing Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium).
Bore Meter:- Won't get bored.Has good pace:).
My Rating:-

On the Waterfront (1954)

This Academy Award winning movie is the movie from which the Aamir Khan starrer Ghulam was copied from:P.Here,an ex-prize fighter turned longshoreman struggles to stand up to his corrupt union bosses. For its great direction, screenplay and an excellent performance by Marlon Brando, this is definitely worth your watch:).

Genre:- Drama.
Oscar Buzz:-
Won 8 Oscars (Best Actor in a Leading Role,Best Actress in a Supporting Role,Best Art Direction-Set Decoration Black-and-White,Best Cinematography Black-and-White,Best Director,Best Film Editing,Best Picture,Best Writing Story and Screenplay)

It's a classic old comedy. ♥♥♥♥ Marilyn Monroe ♥♥♥♥ :) And 12 Angry Men is awesome. Showed it to my brother and he was thrilled too. Thank you for suggesting that movie. I haven't watched On The Waterfront yet but i'm on it pronto. :) Meanwhile i'm awaiting your 60's classic list. Do write more. :)
